David produces finely polished figurative and abstract work that captures human emotions using both human and animal forms. Sizes range from hand held to life size using a variety of woods. He takes his time making each piece with the goal of allowing the character of the wood to influence the shape and the presentation of the piece. He has been influenced by both Southwestern and Nordic art pulling some subject matter from the Southwest and the clean lines from the Nordic art.
Religious overtones are common in his art as they embody universal human concepts. The interaction between a mother and child are precious not just to the religious person, but also to the most secular of people. Activities such as striving for goals and standing up for right and wrong are activities that mark the human condition as well as found in religious texts. Thus, while the religious overtones are there, the pieces do not have religious titles.
In most cases, the character of the wood is used to direct both the shape and the form. To show this character, often the body of the work is made from a single block of wood and finished with a clear finish.
